Sri Yogi Shivan
A yogi seeks the truth, and having found it, shares it with others.
Born as the sixth child of Sri. Sisupalan and Smt. Sarada in a village called Vakkom, Shivadasan did not know the meaning of fear and anxiety. His father who was an expert in traditional Ayurveda wished his son to be very strong, both physically and mentally. His motivation encouraged Shivadasan to learn Kalari Payattu and Karate. Kalari channels ones energy into a positive direction through yogic stretching while Karate, combat without weapons, is about being self-disciplined.
Shivadasan mastered both Southern and Northern styles of Kalaripayattu and earned a black belt in Karate. After mastering these two arts he went on to learn classical dance forms like Bharatanatyam and Kuchupudi, two main classical dance forms of south India.
In 1989, he went to Oman and worked as a martial arts and yoga trainer. There he witnessed the disappointment and misery of immensely rich people. They were capable of buying everything with money, except health and happiness. Many incidents gave him the realisation that material wealth cannot make him content. It motivated him to seek something that transcends body and mind.
His thirst to learn more and discover his real Self grew stronger and stronger during his days in Oman. His heart kept telling him “This is not the end, I have far to go…” In this quest he came across the book “Raja Yoga” by Swam Vivekananda, which kindled in him the longing to find a guru to guide his spiritual quest. This book, he felt, reflected his real Self and thus commenced his journey of self-realisation. Shivadasan left all his comforts back in Oman after serving there for three years and came back to India in search of a guru.
After a long search involving a daunting journey through the length and breadth of India, he found his guru, Shivajothi Dharmananda at Sree Kanthimutt in Kerala. Shivadasan’s heart accepted him as his guru and bowed before him. As the Buddhist proverb says, “When the student is ready, the teacher appears”. He was given Deeksha by his guru maharaj. This led to the death of Shivadasan and the birth of Shri. Yogi Shivan. He mastered the art of awakening the Kundalini sakthi with his guru’s guidance.
Today, amidst a fast and stressful society, Yogi Shivan leads the calm, sattvik life of a yogi. He says, “The real divine experience makes you free, happy and fearless”.
True, isn’t it? His mission is to spread the message that “One needs to search God within and not in the external world of Illusion. One cannot understand the Infinite through the finite senses”.
His noble heart and compassion towards fellow beings led to the birth of Indimasi in Trivandrum, the capital of Kerala. Shri. Yogi Shivan proves that one can lead a happy and healthy life through balanced food, asanas, pranayama and meditation. Indimasi spreads this knowledge to the world. It serves the community with positivity and spreads good vibrations by integrating the body, mind and soul through Ayurveda and Yoga. It promotes the way to healthy living by eliminating the fear of disease, anxiety and depression.
“Difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations.” Our yogi also took so many difficult roads in his life for self-realisation and arrived at the beautiful destination. He wishes to guide everyone who approaches him to reach this beautiful destination of self healing and enlightenment, as he did.
